Daisies and 3 Cousins

My sister April took some daisy pictures of Lexi, Kaytlin and their cousin Savanna at our family cabin in Montana. We're lucky to have her taking awesome pictures. I'll post more of our trip later.

White Pass Yukon Route

We were tourists again today! The main excursion people come up here and do is the train ride up White Pass. We got a good deal (of course) and went to the summit - a scenic 3-hour ride with a car pretty much to ourselves, to just inside of British Columbia. Marisha babysat for us (thank you!) and we took Lexi with us. (There's a caboose parked in town that she loves to play around and she's been waiting all summer to ride the train.) I thought this was a funny picture, with other cameras in the shot and all, but that's just the way things really are.

On a side note, I met a deaf man on the train and talked (signed) to him and his girlfriend. It was fun to use ASL, if even for a few minutes. I tried to get Lexi to sign but she was too shy.

All in all, another great day in Skagway!! (more pictures below)

Train bridge

The bridge we didn't go on. It wasn't until you were right next it that you see that it wasn't functioning and then our bridge was just ahead.

Fireweed

John took this picture from the train. I thought the motion made a pretty cool effect.

Reid Falls

I took the girls and one of our employees to this waterfall yesterday. It's about a mile away from where we live. I was hoping to explore the little cave on the other side but there was too much water coming down this time.

Call for recipes?

My house is 85 degrees. I'm not really used to hot summers. We don't have AC (why would you in Alaska?) and I'm stuck at home with a napping child. Any dinner ideas that wouldn't heat up our house anymore? Oh yeah, and with the thought that the grocery store is sold out of most produce and half of it's frozen food (it's Monday). Help!

A day out

We had a great day today! Marisha had today off so we went to Long Bay to meet some friends. Lexi (and John and I) have made some great friends up here. When we got there the other family had stopped at the river to play so we joined them there. I still can't believe those kids played so long in the water - it was freezing! Seriously, my feet went numb just walking to the sandbar. Lexi's been coming out of her shell up here. She's becoming a lot more social and adventuresome (thanks to her friends).

We had lunch and just enjoyed each other's company and the nice, warm day. I was glad Marisha brought her camera, she took some awesome pictures. I've posted a few.
We just got back from watching the fireworks with another family we're friends with. (The people who do the fireworks are from a larger town so we get them a day early here). Can't wait for the parade and other festivities tomorrow. I love this country and am so grateful for our founding fathers and all those who have sacrificed so that we can have such freedom. Today was great just watching the kids play and be completely free. God bless America!

What's left

We're standing on what is left of a 100 year old dock in Dyea (I think).
