Sunny Skagway!

First of all, this is the art we have in our temporary home, colored by Lexi. If you can't tell, she drew a portrait of each of us.We have been loving the nice weather we'd had up here. Not a single rainy day! Wahoo! Here are some pictures I took yesterday of the girls while we were out and about. Lexi was very good about letting me take pictures. We went to see "Lexi's train" and did somersaults and picked dandelions on the grass, threw rocks and sticks in a stream and just walked around enjoying the good weather.

This is where John spends most of his waking hours. The White Pass is in the background, where the US/Canadian border is only 20 minutes away. John has the weekend off and we're going to have relax and have fun!

Lexi Prayers

Lexi said our family prayer tonight. She's decided she can pray without help now. Here is how some of it went:

Heavenly Father, grateful for day, grateful for family, grateful for day, grateful for family.
Grateful for my eisle and my necklace. Grateful for Daddy's computer, grateful for Daddy's backpack. Grateful for Kaytlin's socks, grateful for Lexi's socks, grateful for many things. Grateful for Jesus and Christ.... Name Jesus Christ, amen.

Update...finally :o)

My girls were such good sports today, it wasn't the best weather for a walk but I wanted to take pictures. Lexi wanted to see the caboose so we walked the four or five blocks to it. Sometime this season we'll take a ride on the train up White Pass.
About a week and a half ago we drove through the pass to Whitehorse, which is in Canada. The border is only 20 minutes away, then you're in British Columbia but only for a while, then you're in the Yukon Territory. I wish I had my camera for the drive it was like crazy snowy, white, huge mountains we were driving through. Whitehorse was a normal-sized town/city with Walmart, Quiznos, Pizza Hut, etc.
Anyway, here's a ton of pictures of Skagway. We're doing well. John is working everyday 8-7 and will get a day off eventually. It hasn't been too bad since we're only half a block away from the store. We visit him every time we leave the house and he comes home for lunches to spend more time with us. I'm also working a few hours a few days a week. John or I wear Kaytlin on our back and Lexi goes to a really nice daycare for the 3 hours or so I'm working. It's hard to admit it, I never thought I'd have my kids in daycare, but she likes it and it just has to be that way until the another employee comes up in June. (She did pick up the word "butt" but that would have happened eventually right?)
I'm really enjoying the friendly little community here. There are some great parks, hikes, playgrounds, and a library. The branch has a decent-sized Primary and there is a nursery now. Normally there's only 15 members, but since it's the tourist season there's like 60 - mostly young adults but there are few small families like us too.
Marisha has her own apartment now and a roommate (another employee) and is making friends with other young adults.
Groceries aren't as bad as I thought. Bananas are like $1.79 a pound, half gallon of ice cream is $5.50 and I think milk is $4-5. The problem though is making sure you go shopping the right day of the week. If you go on like a Monday there's like no yogurt, bread, and the produce and frozen section is picked over pretty bad. I've really been wanting frozen broccoli, but have been out of luck for two weeks now. I hear their shipment from the barge comes Tuesdays or Wednesdays, so I'll have to try again next week.

John had just enough time this morning to paint Lexi's nails before he headed off to work. Here's a few pictures of our place. I'm planning on blogging more later today with pictures and more of what Skagway is like.

Days of Fun

We've made a point since we've been here to get out and have fun. I take the girls to the park almost everyday. I love this picture of Kaytlin because you can actually see some hair on her head. We also went on a hike yesterday to a lake that still had snow/ice. I couldn't believe how clear the ice was. I took like 20 pictures of the ice and only a few of us (kinda backwards but whatever). My sister, Marisha, went with us. Her apartment isn't quite finished being built so she's been sleeping on our couch and hanging out with us. She's been a good sport about it all and we've had fun spending time with her. She took some really cool pictures so I'll get copies and post some.

I'll post pictures of our apartment once Marisha's is done. Right now we have all the furniture for both apartments stuffed in ours.

You guys will have to update us on American Idol, we haven't been able to watch it since we moved. :o(

Oh, and random - Kaytlin doesn't like milk. Any suggestions on helping her like it? I'm going to try chocolate milk today and see if that makes a difference.
